Furnace Inspection & Cleaning
Visual Inspection
- Check venting for proper slope and connections
- Inspect combustion air supply
- Look for rust, corrosion, or damage
- Check filter and educate customer
- Inspect gas line connections
Burner Cleaning
- Turn off gas supply
- Remove burners if accessible
- Brush and vacuum burner ports
- Check for cracks or damage
- Reinstall and verify alignment
Heat Exchanger Inspection
Critical safety check for all gas furnaces:
- Visual inspection with mirror and flashlight
- Look for cracks, rust, or deterioration
- Check for flame disturbance when blower starts
- CO testing in supply air
Important: A cracked heat exchanger allows combustion gases including CO to enter the home. Red-tag the system immediately if cracks are found.
Combustion Analysis
Use combustion analyzer to verify:
- CO levels in flue (should be under 100 ppm)
- O2 percentage (indicates combustion efficiency)
- Stack temperature
- Combustion efficiency percentage
Safety Device Testing
- Test high limit switch operation
- Verify pressure switch function
- Check flame rollout switches
- Test inducer motor operation
- Verify thermostat operation
